Aluminum structural plate is used when any type of manufactured pipe would be too large for conventional shipment methods. These structures are assembled in the field by bolting together curved fabricated plates that have holes punched around the periphery of the plate. The plates are formed using a 9” x 2½” corrugation and made with heavier plate than that used in fabricated corrugated aluminum pipe. The plates are curved for added stiffness.
Structural plate is designed and fabricated into seven shapes that vary from round pipe up to 21-foot diameter, to low profile box culverts that have spans in excess of 25 feet, with correspondingly low head room requirements. Shapes such as the low profile box culvert, the pipe-arch or the arch allow a greater volume of flow through the pipe when head room restrictions limit the height (rise) of the structure. If height limitations do not exist, round pipe should be used since it is the easiest shape to fabricate and install and thus the most economical.
This product is very versatile and can be used for a large variety of applications other that the conventional uses such as culverts, storm sewers and small bridge structures. The underpass shape is particularly adaptable to passages for vehicles, golf carts, livestock or pedestrians if the site allows slightly more headroom. With more attention being devoted to environmental concerns, several of the seven shapes are useful as wildlife passages under roadways. At many potential sites for hydraulic conveyance structures or bridge structures, construction specifications limit or prohibit disturbance of the natural streambed. The arch or low profile box culvert shapes can be installed without inverts, thus eliminating any disturbance to the streambed during construction, and maintains the natural environment after installation. These two structures are also useful for crossing wetlands. The variety of structural aluminum plate shapes and Lane’s fabrication capabilities allow this product to be used in an extremely large variety of applications. Your imagination is the only limit to potential applications. |
